Our Vision
Driven by our belief in health care as a right, not a privilege, the Adassa Martin Foundation (AMF) helps bridge the gap in equal access to emergency medical services and acute surgical care by providing financial assistance based on socio-economic need to improve the lives of those in need. Through our programs, AMF is able to aid Jamaicans in communities where access to these services and level of medical care would be cost prohibitive. Promoting change and inspiring hope, one helping hand at a time.
Our Focus
The Adassa Martin Foundation offers financial assistance to the people of Jamaica based on socio-economic needs of applicants to aid with the cost of utilizing CMS Ambulance Service LTD offered in Kingston & St. Andrew, Mandeville, and Ocho Rios, St. Ann as well as limited financial assistance for select acute medical traumatic and surgical treatment costs. Through these programs, AMF is able to aid the people in communities that wouldn’t otherwise have access to these services and level of medical care based on affordability. We have set out to bring equal access of medical care, improving the lives of the Jamaican people.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Adassa Martin Foundation (AMF) is to improve the lives of the people of Jamaica through outreach that will bring equality in access to emergency medical services and acute medical care.
Our Story
It is an all too familiar story for the residents of Jamaica to be denied access or subjected to delays for ambulatory services because they are cost prohibitive and unreliable. AMF founder, Keith Martin, lost his mother, Adassa, when she was unable to receive timely access to emergent medical care. In her honor, the foundation provides funding to cover the costs of emergency ambulance transportation services in partnership with CMS Ambulance Service Limited to those with a demonstrated financial need in the CMS areas of service as well as other emergency diagnostic and treatment costs.
Accessibility to emergency medical transportation, diagnostics, and treatment should be a basic human right for all and not just a privilege of the wealthy. In times of crisis, such as motor vehicle accidents, patients in Jamaica are often transported to the hospital in the back of someone’s car or pickup truck and do not receive the proper medical care from emergency medical professionals who are trained to treat and handle these situations.
Sadly, it is a regular occurrence for families to lose their loved ones in these circumstances because they are unable to afford the costs associated with necessary emergency medical transportation and treatment.
Many lives could be saved if these services were readily available and accessible to all. A person having a stroke or heart attack or other life-threatening medical issue that requires this type of intervention has a lower rate of survival when they come from areas of lower income and lack the financial resources required under the current system, denying them access to an ambulance and proper treatment. High costs prevent much needed medical intervention, especially in emergency situations. Often times, patients simply need a cat scan, x-ray, or other form of imaging that would allow a doctor to determine proper treatment, yet they are left behind and untreated due to their socio-economic situation. It is the intention of the Adassa Martin Foundation (AMF) to ensure that we can provide financial support to as many residents of Jamaica as we can by using a qualification system where people can apply to the foundation for financial assistance that will offset their medical expenses and help pay the outstanding charges for these services.
